How to eat better at home & Work from Home

Whether you struggle with overeating or resisting the urge for sugary snacks, temptation is always around the corner. So, why not set yourself a tough but rewarding resolution this July. I have put together some tips on how to keep a better-balanced diet at home, to help really give a boost to your health this month.

1. Don’t work in or near the kitchen

Try to arrange your workspace away from the kitchen, or at least out of sight of the fridge. This will help to avoid temptation and the constant desire to visit the snack cupboard. Try to stick to your scheduled meal times and only go to the kitchen or fridge at these times.

2. Plan your snack and mealtime

Plan your meals the same way you would plan the rest of your day - wake-up, workout, work and sleep. When working from an office we wouldn't be eating all day - so have a plan whilst working from home. Set a time where you will have breakfast, lunch, dinner & snacks, to help reduce over-eating.

3. Prepare your lunches

Being at home, it can feel liberating to have the freedom of eating what we want, not to mention not queuing for the microwave at work. For some people, this freedom can be too much especially when it comes to weekday lunches, and we can be tempted into some unhealthy food choices. Try to prepare your meals the night before - even if you stick to basics such as salad, pre-cut vegetables, grilled chicken or fish and nuts. Alternatively, why not try a veggie omelette, but pre-cut the vegetables beforehand so it is quick to prepare at lunchtime.

4. Drink plenty of water

Dehydration can commonly lead to over-eating, fatigue and a lack of ability to focus. All the vital components you need to be able to work well. Keep a large water container near you on your desk and take regular sips throughout the day. Try to aim for at least 2-3 litres every day.

5. Focus on real foods

Nutritional, balanced food will give you more energy, lift your mood and keep you focussed for longer. Avoid processed foods and try to stick to whole grain carbohydrates, protein, fibre, healthy fats, fruit and vegetables. Although obvious, avoid snacking on chocolates and other junk foods. Buy fresh and keep your macro's in mind. Depending on your goal, we would recommend your daily food consumption to comprise of the following macros; 40-60% carbohydrates, 20-35% protein and 20-35% healthy fats.

6. Don't buy junk food

The best way to stop the urge to go to the snack cupboard is to prevent yourself from buying it in the first place. If it is not in your kitchen, you won’t eat it! Take special care with foods which you know trigger binges for you. Out of sight, out of mind is the golden rule!

7. When you eat, just eat

The temptation to sit by your desk and eat your lunch can be high, but we recommend avoiding this if you can. Take a seat at your table and take a few minutes and have a break - this will lead to better satisfaction of your meal and reduce the want to overeat. It will also give you a well-earned break to re-gain focus for the rest of your day.

Learn to heal yourself.

Sometimes we trick ourselves. If we feel unhappy, troubled, or scared, we race toward what we think will make us feel better. In desperation, in fear, we grasp for something, anything to stop our pain. Finding that job. Making more money. Getting married. Having a relationship. If I get that one thing I need, then I’ll be happy. Then my pain will stop.

Sometimes it’s true that finding the solution to a problem improves the quality of our lives. Having enough money enables us to fix the furnace when it breaks. Having people in our lives we love and who love us can be an important part of our happiness. Having work to do that we enjoy and that we feel is worthwhile helps us feel good about ourselves.

But when we’re in pain—no matter what’s causing it—the way to heal that pain doesn’t come from outside of ourselves. External circumstances don’t make internal emotions disappear. Even if we get what we think we want, the painful emotion we haven’t had the strength or courage to face will still be there.

The way to heal pain, the only way, is to feel and release it. Your pain is your pain. Your fear, desperation, and resentments are yours, too. All these emotions belong to you. Feel them, learn from them, and let them go.

Walk courageously each step of the
path on the journey to the heart. Enjoy
when the universe sends you its gifts—
a lover, some money, a good job. But know
the ultimate key to happiness lies not in
external things, but within you. Feel all
your feelings. Learn to heal yourself.

A dangerous friendship of Sugar and Human Brain

Did you ever wonder why people love sweets so much and why they cannot stop eating the tempting treats once they get their hands on some? Well, it all started with our ancestors and chemicals in our brains.

According to an article published by Live Science, the human brain is actually hardwired to crave sugary foods. Ancient people were scavengers, and glucose-rich food served as a good source of energy. However, to help mankind survive, our brains evolved. See, back then things that tasted bad were dangerous as they might have been poisonous, and our ancestors did not have any other way to determine whether the food they were about to eat was dangerous or not. So, our brain started to flagged sweet things as good food, leading us to want more once we eat them.

When we eat sweet foods, the brain's reward system – called the mesolimbic dopamine system – activates. Dopamine is a brain chemical released by neurons and can signal that an event was positive. Hence, if you decide just to have a taste of the cheesecake you were offered, it is highly likely to you will end up wanting more than just a bite.

However, sugar not only negatively affects our brain but our bodies as well. Research shows that rats on high-sugar diets were less able to remember whether they had previously seen objects in specific locations. Sugar also increases the risk of obesity, diabetes and heart disease, and studies have linked it to accelerated aging.

Next time you crave your favorite dessert, keep in mind: it is actually your brain craving it, not your stomach!

Happy X'mas

Technology Detox

I got chance to listen to one of  best based social media specialist in the world few years ago and my life transformed enormously in last 7 years without social medias like Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram and Orkut. I didn't miss any of my 1000 friends, real friends called me, messaged me or emailed me and others didn't even notice I was not there in social media.
Social Media Specialist described the technology addiction  as “intense interest in personal computers and mobile devices” and “a habit to get away from society.” My first phone was Nokia phone a second hand from father so when I got to buy an Iphone 4 and got a laptop from work I was over the moon.
For over 5 years I spend minimum of 2 to 3 hrs on phone daily  and 8-9 hours on computers for work on a weekday and more on weekends.
https://www.festaff.co.uk/
When I connect with people in Social Media I am forgetting my real world where I am and trying to connect virtually to the  life of others through the use of high-tech devices and it start  hurting my performance, personal life and social life, and this led me use of periodic technology detoxes as an antidote to this problem.
A technological detox means a person taking a break from using high-tech devices or social media sites, thereby gaining the opportunity to go deeper into their thoughts and achieving inner peace, according to Social Media Specialist .
"We must take technological tools out of our lives for a while and let our mind, body and soul rest," he said. "If we constantly look at screens, watching for notifications, we waste time and energy and damage ourselves."
"We must seriously think about practising a tech detox," he said, adding that this practice can lessen the physical and mental damage wrought by excessive use of digital devices. Tech detox is not simply limited to avoiding devices, according to Social Media Specialist , as one should also steer clear of social media platforms during certain periods to enjoy freedom.
"To do a detox, we first disable notifications from social media accounts, or rather turn off all notifications on our phones," he said. Urging people to unplug from their cellphones, especially during social occasions with friends, family members or colleagues, he said people should stop "concentrating their lives on a small screen."
"It's good to look out the window or even close your eyes for a few seconds and relax for a few minutes," he said. Social Media Specialist  suggests that staying away from high-tech products for only a couple of days can significantly boost our mental condition, as not wasting time and energy on this "tech addiction" strengthens our spirits.
The idea of a "tech detox" has gained momentum in recent years, and more and more people and groups have begun taking steps in this direction, for example with the "Technological Sleep Festival" program implemented by the province of Izmir, in Turkey's Aegean region.
In this program, participants hand over their phones to the authorities and stay away from technological devices for 48 hours, instead spending their time exercising, socializing, reading books, playing sports and enjoying face-to-face conversations.
Many digital experts urge adopting the "5:2 method," under which after the five-day workweek, people shy away from high-tech devices from Friday night to Monday morning, , calling it an easy but effective strategy.
"Technological detox has become a must for anyone who wants to lead a healthy life," he said. To some, a high-tech detox might sound like going too far, as they believe they do not spend too much time on their phones or computers. But in fact, over a year's time, spending over two hours per day on screens adds up to almost an entire month.
As humans grow more accustomed to using such devices, we tend to lose our connection with nature, nearby friends and social life, and edge toward a robotic-type existence. So deliberately going a bit primitive from time to time might be a good way to maintain our humanity.

Social Media triggered Quasimodo syndrome

If you had heard about Quasimodo syndrome before raise your hands please ???

It is named after the Quasimodo character in Victor Hugo's "The Hunchback of Notre Dame," Quasimodo syndrome, or body dysphoric disorder, means people with Quasimodo syndrome always examine themselves in a mirror and find a new flaw every time.

I had a roomate who spend hours infront of mirror to check her nose ( but nothing is wrong with it )This syndrome generally emerges during puberty. Along with genetic predisposition, social norms and the beauty perceptions spread across social media are the triggering factors of the syndrome.

Too much time worrying

The basic sign of this syndrome is that the individual examines himself/herself too much and finds flaws in his/her image. These examinations that take so much time are especially focused on facial region. These people often knock on the door of plastic surgeons and dermatologists and get larger or smaller operations.

Being overly hesitant

People with the Quasimodo syndrome are always hesitant in subjects such as hair and clothing style and think that their imaginary flaws are recognised by everyone and they are ugly.  People with this syndrome say things like, "I am so ugly or my eyes, my nose, are ugly."

In the points when they have to make a decision about their lives, their self-perception as ugly creates low self-esteem and discourages them in many subjects. Besides, their obsession with beauty blocks their interest and perception in other areas of life.

Obsessive behaviours

Patients see their imaginary flaws which cannot be recognized by others as a serious handicap and deal with them continuously. Because of this perception, they show repetitive behaviours. For example, looking at a mirror, try to hide something or correct something, seeking approval for confidence and beauty are some of them.

While comparing their features with others in social media , their life quality gets spoiled in time. They become introverted and do not want to go out. The only thing that they do becomes to correct their flaws. In the advanced cases, they can have a desire to end their lives.

Nail polish health risks

The study involved 24 women and experts evaluated the effects of the chemical toxins in their bodies. The source of these chemicals was nail polish.
All of the participants were found to have signs of triphenyl phosphate in the body only 10 hours after applying nail polish.
The same researchers, in a follow-up study, evaluated 10 different nail polishes for triphenyl phosphate and found it in 8 of them.
What’s more, two of these 8 did not even list the presence of the chemical on the label. Therefore, 20% of nail polishes we purchase have a harmful chemical that is not listed on the label.
Triphenyl phosphate (or TPHP) is a dangerous chemical that disrupts the humans’ endocrine system, which controls all our hormones. According to the lead researcher of the study, Dr. Heather Stapleton, “There is growing evidence suggesting that TPHP may affect hormone regulation, metabolism, reproduction, and development.”
Hence, his is extremely alarming for young girls who use nail polish on a daily basis and the healthy hormonal development is vital for their growth. TPHP  is a known:
  • Neurotoxin (causes developmental effects)
  • Reproductive Toxin
  • Skin irritant and allergen
  • Endocrine Toxin
Nail polish contains other harmful ingredients as well, such as:
Formaldehyde
Formaldehyde is a popular carcinogen which dissolves in water and air. It leads to asthma, scratchy throat, and difficulty breathing. Individuals suffering from some chronic diseases are especially prone to poisoning from formaldehyde.
Dibutyl Phthalate
This chemical poses the similar risks as TPHP, as it disrupts the hormonal balance and contains reproductive system toxins.
Toluene
Toluene impedes the development in children and irritates skin.
Yet, there are some natural nail polish alternatives you can use in order to prevent these effects and help you avoid allergies, cancer, and hormone disruption.
These are the best of them:
-Acquarella offers more than 50 polish colors, which are all water-based, meaning that you can remove them effortlessly with standard rubbing alcohol, and don’t contain any of these harmful ingredients like formaldehyde, toluene, dibutyl phthalate, mercury, or wheat products.
-Peacekeeper Cause-Metics offers bright nail polishes, which do not contain toxins and are infused with argan oil, which moisturizes your nails.
-SpaRitual is a completely vegan brand that produces toxin-free nail polishes.
-Honeybee Gardens offers nail polishes in various colors, which are water-based, and are free of carcinogens and harmful chemicals.
Make sure you always choose health-conscious nail polishes in order to protect your wellbeing and avoid the side-effects of regular nail polish brands.

Yoga

Surya Namaskara  also known in English as Sun Salutation  is a common sequence of asanas. Its origins lie in India where its large Hindu population worships Surya, the Hindu solar deity.

This sequence of movements and asanas can be practised on varying levels of awareness, ranging from that of physical exercise in various styles, to a complete sadhana which incorporates asana, pranayama, mantra and chakra meditation.

Surya Namaskara, like most asanas, is recommended to be performed on an empty stomach. Therefore some recommend a gap of at least two hours after eating and before performing the namaskara. It is generally practiced in the morning before breakfast or in evening.

Sugar and Aging

Sugar, not only affects your waistline and heart health, it also impacts your skin.

“Sugar definitely is the biggest culprit in speeding up the process of premature aging,” says Dr. Whitney Bowe, a dermatologist at Advanced Dermatology in New York City. “It makes us look more haggard and wrinkled.”

When people eat too much sugar, or carbs that quickly break down to sugar, the excess floods the body. Some of it hangs out in the blood, spiking a person’s glucose levels, but it also binds to proteins in a process known as glycation. Sugar loves linking to collagen and elastin, two proteins that give skin its firm, supple look.

Collagen and elastin become stiff and rigid and you cannot repair them says Farris, co-author of “The Sugar Detox: Lose the Sugar, Lose the Weight

Burn Off Sugar
You can burn off the glucose in your bloodstream by  physical movement by riding a bicycle or jog or do jumping jacks. It also helps if you would swing your arms in circular motions, both backward and forward. You will see great results if you do either one or all of these suggestions for at least 10 minutes or more.
Flush Out Sugar
To rid your body of sugar, flush it out. . Flush out sugar from your body by drinking two 8-ounce glasses of water quickly. Wait five minutes and then drink a third 8-ounce glass of water. Needless to say, drinking all that water will cause you to urinate and flush out the sugar.
Nuts
Nuts are great for lowering and controlling blood sugar levels; particularly the oil bearing nuts, squash, and sun flower seeds.
Wheat Germ
Wheat germ lowers blood sugar because it consists of vitamins B and E. Four or five spoonful of wheat germ can lower the sugar level in your blood as well as the need for insulin.
Vinegar
Several studies have shown that a realistic amount of vinegar or lemon juice, in the form of salad dressing, consumed with a mixed meal, lowers blood sugar levels significantly.
Vegetables
Vegetables are a very good food for people with elevated blood sugar. The best vegetables for lowering blood sugar are cauliflower, broccoli, and cabbages.
Foods such as snack cakes, muffins, breakfast cereal and even spaghetti sauce can contain loads of sugar. Check the labels.
